About Dudhpokhari Museum

Dudhpokhari Museum is a community-focused heritage institution dedicated to preserving, documenting, and promoting the history, culture, traditions, and living heritage of Dudhpokhari Rural Municipality, Lamjung, Nepal.Dudhpokhari Rural Municipality was established in 2073 B.S. (2017) as part of Nepal’s local government restructuring, bringing together the former VDCs of Dudhpokhari, Bichaour, Ilampokhari, Kolki, and Gauda. Covering approximately 155.33 square kilometers across six wards, the municipality is home to diverse communities, cultural traditions, local knowledge, and historical experiences.The museum seeks to preserve both tangible and intangible heritage, including traditional tools and household objects, agricultural materials, clothing and ornaments, photographs, documents, manuscripts, religious and cultural objects, oral histories, and local knowledge. These collections provide valuable insight into the everyday lives, traditions, skills, and identity of the communities of Dudhpokhari.As a community-centered museum, Dudhpokhari Museum aims to involve local residents, elders, students, researchers, and younger generations in heritage documentation and preservation. It will serve as a space for education, research, cultural learning, and intergenerational knowledge sharing.Through responsible collection, documentation, interpretation, and digital preservation, Dudhpokhari Museum seeks to keep local heritage accessible and meaningful for future generations while strengthening appreciation for the unique cultural identity of Dudhpokhari.
